Ordinary People Can Do Extraordinary Things

About the Citizen Honors Awards

The Citizen Honors Awards are among the nation’s highest civilian honors. They shine a light on individuals and organizations whose heroism or service—whether in a single moment or over a lifetime—demonstrates the power of everyday Americans to make a difference.

Since 2007, a nationwide search is conducted to select five individuals and one organization for this prestigious recognition. Finalists are chosen by a panel assembled by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, with final selections made by a second panel composed exclusively of Medal of Honor Recipients—whose lives embody selfless courage and service to others.
